The Situation

Project Help India works alongside vulnerable children, families and communities across 3 states in Northern India, including informal settlements, rural villages and remote communities where poverty, isolation and limited access to services can significantly restrict opportunities.

Many families experience intergenerational poverty, insecure employment, limited literacy and barriers to education, healthcare and government services. Children are particularly vulnerable. Some have little or no access to formal education, while others may be at risk of child labour, begging, exploitation, trafficking, substance abuse or exclusion because of disability or family circumstances.

Education and nutrition remain at the foundation of Project Help India’s work. Through community learning centres, village education centres and school-based support, children are provided with education, nutritious meals, care and opportunities that may otherwise remain out of reach. During 2024 and 2025, Project Help India operated 14 education centres, supported more than 600 students and provided more than 160,000 meals.

Through the relationships developed with children and their families, Project Help India is also able to identify wider barriers affecting a child's ability to learn, grow and thrive. These may include lack of healthcare, food insecurity, disability, lack of legal identity or access to government services, family crisis, exploitation and child protection concerns.

Project Help India therefore takes an integrated community development approach. Alongside education and nutrition, programs include healthcare and medical outreach, women’s empowerment and vocational skills development, child advocacy, human rights education, crisis response and initiatives addressing human trafficking, child exploitation, substance abuse and community safety.

Increasingly, this work is undertaken in partnership with local police, schools, healthcare professionals, government agencies, community organisations and community leaders. These partnerships help identify vulnerable children and families, coordinate support, strengthen prevention and protection, and connect people with education, healthcare and other essential services.

Through this integrated approach, Project Help India seeks not only to respond to immediate needs, but to address some of the underlying barriers that perpetuate poverty, vulnerability and exclusion — creating pathways to education, health, protection, opportunity and greater independence.

The Objectives

1. Improve access to education and nutrition for vulnerable children and young people, including children living in remote communities, informal settlements and those experiencing disability or other barriers to education.
2. Improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children, families and communities through nutrition programs, health education, medical and dental outreach, referrals and access to essential healthcare.
3. Strengthen child protection and advocacy by identifying children at risk, supporting families to overcome barriers to education and essential services, and working collaboratively with schools, police, healthcare providers, government agencies and community organisations.
4. Reduce vulnerability to human trafficking, child labour, exploitation and substance abuse through prevention, community education, early intervention, advocacy and collaboration with local authorities and community partners.
5. Empower women and strengthen families through education, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellbeing initiatives, vocational skills training and pathways towards greater economic independence.
6. Strengthen the resilience and capacity of vulnerable communities through locally led partnerships, community development initiatives and practical responses to poverty, food insecurity, natural disasters and other community crises.
